Know the Truth
Whether one is for or against decriminalization of cannabis I would hope your passion would motivate you to learn the facts. There has been extensive research done on cannabis, for and against it. A small amount of research would open anyone's eyes. Be sure to research both sides, or else hold your judgment till you have. compared the statistics of the effects of alcohol, tobacco and cannabis. I don’t think there is anyone who would like to be judged by a jury who only took the time to hear the prosecutor.
Think about who benefits from the criminalization of cannabis, think about the victims of this war, the invasion of privacy we are subjected to when applying for a job, the lost benefits of the cultivation of hemp, one of the most versatile plants on our planet just because of it‘s relationship to cannabis.
From what I’ve seen there are plenty of opinionated people who have never even tried cannabis. They gobble up propaganda like it’s gospel truth. They support a system which refuses to acknowledge the facts, stomps on the cornerstone of humanity, the freedom to make your own choices and is known for abusing it’s power in the interests of the powerful and influential, regardless of the detrimental effects of it’s actions.
Personally I don’t care how you decide. I have done my own research and have made my own choice. What concerns me more is that beings of so much potential use so little of it.
Of course I know that there are plenty of passionate people who jump on the bandwagon of whoever they listen to first. Unfortunately for humanity modern media is usually first contact. But ask yourself who is benefiting from something before condemning their opponents. It doesn’t take more than a glance at history to see how detrimental trusting someone else is. It is so much easier to take someone else’s word for something, even if your choice means others will suffer for your lack of education. Governments count heavily on the ignorance of the populace. They are well aware that the majority of their supporters are lazy and irresponsible and won’t take the time to check the facts for themselves.
We now know the world isn’t flat, we now know pollution is harmful, heroin was once believed to be a miracle drug. But at some time in history people also held the opposite to be true.
The Bayer Company started the production of heroin in 1898 after the first clinical results were so promising heroin was considered a wonder drug.
What about tobacco:
It was once believed that tobacco could cure almost anything. Then in the 1980's there were many lawsuits filed against the tobacco industry because of the harmful effects of its products. There is evidence that the tobacco industry knows well harmful effects of tobacco, but continues to market and sell them. There is also evidence that they knew that nicotine was addictive and used this hidden knowledge to get millions of people hooked on their products.
It is unfortunate that humans are generally uneducated sheeples. We eschew our personal responsibility by trusting someone else’s truth without checking the facts for ourselves. I would not have you take me or anyone else at their word. But how much longer will we choose to follow blindly, those who’s empty promises have led to abuse of power, wars and loss of freedom, just to name a few. As inhabitants of our planet it is our personal responsibility to know the facts. People’s lives depend on it. Our freedom depends on it.
